Currently, the best team in the NHL is the San Jose Sharks. Led by Joe Thornton, Dany Heatley, Patrick Marleau, and Evgeni Nabokov, they are a force to be reckoned with. They are currently riding on a 4-game winning streak and having a record of 7-2-1 in their past 10 games. Their overall record is 34-10-8 with 76 points. Forward Patrick Marleau has the most goals in the NHL with 35. Joe Thornton is amongst the tops for overall points, currently sitting in 3rd place. He is also the leader in most assists. Their next game is on Saturday as they face the Sabres at home and look to make it 5 straight wins.

Martin Brodeur of the New Jersey Devils, considered to be the best goalie ever, is close to breaking the record for most shutouts by a goalie. He has led the Devils to a record of 23-8-1 this season (the Devils are 2nd in their division, 4th in the eastern conference, and 3rd in the whole league). Currently, he is tied with goalie Terry Sawchuk with 103 shutouts. Brodeur has a chance to break the record tonight as the Devils host the Ottawa Senators. The Devils are coming in to tonights game winning their last 2 games, and the Senators are coming in winning their last game.

Heres a short video of Brodeur’s top ten saves:

Vancouver Canucks Vs. Minnesota Wild

On Saturday night, I had the opportunity to go to the Canucks game, and I went. Coming in to the game, the Canucks had lost a 5-3 game to the Calgary Flames the night before. The Wild were also coming in losing to the Oilers 5-2 the night before. Both teams were amongst the bottom of the Northwest Division, with the Canucks having 4 points and the Wild having only 2 points. The game was very fun to watch, especially since I was sitting only 7 rows from the ice. The Canucks dominated the Wild in the 1st period, out-shooting and out-chancing them but Mikko Koivu got a goal off a lucky bounce and the Canucks were down by 1. Heading in to the 2nd period, the Canucks dominated the Wild even more. They out shot them 17-4. Because of the Canucks` pressure, Ryan Kesler scored on goalie Nicklas Backstrom. Heading in to the 2nd intermission the score was tied 1-1. Quickly in the 3rd period, newly acquired Mikael Samuelsson gave the Canucks the lead 2-1. The shots were more even throughout the 3rd because the Wild were down by 1. But the Canucks`defense was too much for the Wild and the Canucks won 2-1.

Even though the Canucks won this game, they have to play much better if they want to catch up to Colorado and Calgary. The Canucks play the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. The puck drops at 6pm.
